These sutures exhibit a smooth surface that enables easy passage through tissue with minimal drag. The plain gut material is uncoated, allowing it to initiate a predictable enzymatic absorption process once implanted. Approximately 50% of tensile strength is lost within 5 to 7 days, and complete absorption typically occurs within 70 days through proteolytic enzymatic digestion.
