Description
Quelicin Ftv 20 mg/mL 10 mL is a sterile, nonpyrogenic solution containing succinylcholine chloride, used as a short-acting, depolarizing skeletal muscle relaxant. It is primarily administered intravenously during surgical procedures or in emergency situations that require rapid and short-term muscle relaxation. Succinylcholine is often used to facilitate tracheal intubation and to relax muscles for surgical access, as well as to manage muscle spasms during certain medical interventions.
The mechanism of action of succinylcholine involves binding to acetylcholine receptors at the neuromuscular junction, leading to depolarization of the muscle fibers. This initial muscle contraction is followed by muscle paralysis, which is short-lived due to the rapid breakdown of succinylcholine by the enzyme pseudocholinesterase.
Common side effects of Quelicin include muscle fasciculations, bradycardia, and increased intraocular pressure. It should be used with caution in patients with a history of hyperkalemia, neuromuscular disorders, or malignant hyperthermia. Continuous monitoring is recommended during administration to ensure patient safety.
