Description

Nitrostat 0.4mg is a medication used in the management of angina pectoris (chest pain) associated with coronary artery disease. It contains nitroglycerin, a nitrate compound that works by relaxing the smooth muscles in blood vessels, resulting in vasodilation. This process helps reduce the workload on the heart, lowers blood pressure, and improves blood flow, ultimately alleviating chest pain and preventing angina attacks.

Nitrostat tablets are designed for immediate relief during an angina episode, as they quickly dilate the coronary arteries and restore adequate oxygen supply to the heart muscle. Patients are advised to take the tablet at the onset of chest pain, and if pain persists after several minutes, additional doses may be taken, up to a maximum of three doses within 15 minutes.

Common side effects include headaches, dizziness, and flushing, which are related to the blood vessel dilation. More serious side effects, such as hypotension or severe allergic reactions, are rare but may occur, requiring immediate medical attention. Nitrostat should be stored in a cool, dry place and kept tightly closed in its original container to protect it from moisture and light.
