Description
Nimbex (Cisatracurium Besylate) is a non-depolarizing neuromuscular blocking agent used primarily to facilitate endotracheal intubation. As a benzylquinolizinium compound, it operates by binding to the nicotinic acetylcholine receptors on muscle fibers, blocking the transmission of nerve impulses, and preventing muscle contractions.
The medication is formulated as a 2 mg/mL injection, available in a 10 mL multi-dose vial. Nimbex is typically administered intravenously and provides a rapid onset of action. The duration of its effect depends on the dose, but generally, it lasts around 35 to 60 minutes. One of the key advantages of Nimbex is that it has a minimal impact on cardiovascular function and is less likely to release histamine, reducing the risk of side effects like hypotension.
For storage, Nimbex must be kept in a refrigerated environment at 2 to 8°C (36 to 46°F). The solution is free from preservatives and should be used within 28 days after opening, provided it is stored correctly. The packaging includes a 10-vial box, which ensures proper distribution and storage conditions.
