Lidocaine 2% Amp P-Free 20 mg/mL 2 mL is a local anesthetic commonly used for the temporary relief of pain and discomfort associated with medical procedures. This formulation contains 2% lidocaine hydrochloride as the active ingredient and is presented in a preservative-free ampoule for injection. It is a generic equivalent to Xylocaine®.

Lidocaine works by inhibiting sodium ion influx through cell membranes in nerves, effectively blocking the transmission of nerve impulses. This results in localized numbness and loss of sensation in the area where it is applied. The onset of action is rapid, typically occurring within minutes after injection, and the duration of effect can last from 30 to 60 minutes, depending on the dose and location.

The 2 mL ampoule is intended for single-dose use and is suitable for infiltration, nerve block, or epidural anesthesia, depending on the clinical need. Common side effects include temporary numbness, swelling at the injection site, and allergic reactions, though these are relatively uncommon.
