Description

Gentamicin 40mg/mL 20mL MDV 25 is a concentrated injectable formulation of gentamicin sulfate, an aminoglycoside antibiotic. It is supplied in a 20mL multiple-dose vial, with each milliliter containing 40mg of gentamicin. The product is intended for intravenous or intramuscular administration to treat a variety of bacterial infections caused by susceptible organisms.

Gentamicin works by inhibiting bacterial protein synthesis through binding to the 30S ribosomal subunit, leading to the disruption of normal cell function and ultimately bacterial cell death. This mechanism of action makes it effective against a broad spectrum of aerobic Gram-negative and some Gram-positive bacteria, including Pseudomonas aeruginosa, Escherichia coli, and Staphylococcus aureus.

The product is indicated for serious infections such as respiratory tract infections, urinary tract infections, intra-abdominal infections, and sepsis. Due to the potential for nephrotoxicity and ototoxicity, careful monitoring of drug levels and renal function is necessary during therapy, especially in patients with preexisting renal conditions or those receiving prolonged treatment.
