Description
Bupivacaine 0.5% 10mL Single-Dose Vial (25/Bx) is a sterile injectable solution used for local anesthesia. The product contains 50 mg of bupivacaine per 10mL, a long-acting amide-type local anesthetic. It is commonly utilized in procedures requiring nerve blocks, caudal, and epidural anesthesia. Bupivacaine is the generic equivalent to well-known brands such as Marcaine™ and Sensorcaine®.
Bupivacaine exerts its anesthetic effects by blocking sodium channels in nerve fibers, preventing the transmission of nerve impulses. This mechanism leads to a reversible loss of sensation in the targeted area. The 0.5% concentration ensures a potent, long-lasting effect, ideal for surgeries or pain management procedures requiring extended anesthetic coverage.
This formulation is specifically intended for nerve blocks, caudal, and epidural anesthesia. It is not designed for spinal anesthesia, as the risk of toxicity and complications may be higher in spinal applications. Bupivacaine typically provides analgesia lasting several hours, depending on the procedure, patient condition, and dosage.
